The Blacksmith is a crafter, but it is also the trade that gives way to a plethora of other professions. The main craft of the Blacksmith is Tools, Items required by almost every other profession in one form or another. If you want a belt, pouch, backpack, armor, weapons, or tools it all requires an item created by one of these professionals. You must have access to a Blacksmith. Blacksmith also creates Kits for the other professions and skills.
